Colon Cancer Prevention Project Mission
The mission of the Colon Cancer Prevention Project is to eliminate preventable colon cancer death and suffering by increasing screening rates through education, advocacy and health systems improvement in Kentucky and surrounding communities.
Colon Cancer Prevention Project History
In 2004, Dr. Whitney Jones founded the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, whose mission is to eliminate preventable colon cancer death and suffering
by increasing screening rates through education, advocacy and health systems
improvement in Kentucky and surrounding communities. Since that time, the
Project has been instrumental in creating increased awareness throughout the
state of Kentucky, and more recently, in advocating for the successful
passage of House Bill 415, which will create a colon cancer screening
program for the uninsured and an accompanying educational campaign to inform
all Kentuckians of the need for colon cancer screening. Dr. Jones was
appointed by the Governor to the Kentucky Colon Cancer Screening Program
Advisory Committee, and in August 2008 was elected chairman of the
committee. In his role as chairman,
Dr. Jones continues to lead the effort
to develop and secure funding for a statewide colon cancer screening
program.
